Psychometric properties and validation of a Polish adaptation of Carver and White s BIS/BAS scales
نویسندگان
چکیده
The BIS–BAS scales (Carver & White, 1994), which assess Gray s motivational systems, were translated into Polish. The first part of this contribution contains a psychometric analysis of the Polish translation. The analyses include basic item and scale descriptions as well as structural equation modeling of the measurement model. The second part describes two studies for proving convergent and discriminant validity. In the first study, the correlations are presented on the dimension of the Polish translation of the EPQ-R (including extraversion and neuroticism), STAI-Y2 (with anxiety) and PANAS (with positive and negative affects). The second study includes PTS (with strength of excitation, strength of inhibition, and mobility), FCB-TI (with emotional reactivity, endurance, activity, briskness, and perseveration). The psychometric results as well as the results from convergent and discriminant validity analyses provide evidence for a successful translation of the original scales including relationships to temperamental constructs. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Psychometric Properties of the Persian Version of the of the Emotional Reaction Scale (ERS) in Students
Introduction: Emotional reactivity has a role in the creation and continuation of many psychological disorders, but the measurement tools of this component are limited. The purpose of this study was to assess the psychometric adequacy of the Persian version of the Emotional Reaction Scale (ERS). Method: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 300 students of Kas...

The Behavioral Inhibition System(BIS) and Behavioral Activation System(BAS) Scales(BIS/BASS) were developed by Carver and White(1) as self-report measures derived from the two behavioral systems in Gray's theory(2,3). The purpose of the present study was to examine carry out Carver and White’s model with Shiraz university students. In order to this research, exploratory factor structure of the ...

Jeffrey Gray's Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory (RST) represents one of the most influential biologically-based personality theories describing individual differences in approach and avoidance tendencies. The most prominent self-report inventory to measure individual differences in approach and avoidance behavior to date is the BIS/BAS scale by Carver and White (1994). As Gray and McNaughton (2...

The latent structure, reliability, and validity of the Behavioral Inhibition/Behavioral Activation Scales (BIS/BAS; C. L. Carver and T. L. White, 1994) were examined in a large sample of outpatients (N = 1,825) with anxiety and mood disorders. Four subsamples were used for exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. In addition to generally upholding a latent structure found previously in non...
متن کاملPsychometric Properties of Carver and White's (1994) BIS/BAS Scales in a Large Sample of Offenders.
Contemporary motivational theories of psychopathy (Lykken, 1995) employ constructs from Gray's Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory (RST; Gray, 1982), behavioral inhibition system (BIS) and behavioral activation system (BAS) functioning, to explain etiologic differences in psychopathy subtypes. Carver and White's (1994) BIS/BAS scales are the most widely used measures of these constructs, yet there...
